Amazon Changes its Physical Strategy: The retailer will close all 87 of its pop-up stores and the program, according to a Amazon representative, will stop in favor of the company's other physical concept.

"After much review, we have decided to discontinue our pop-up kiosk program and expand Amazon 4-star Amazon books. We offer a more comprehensive customer experience and greater choice," Amazon said.

The stores were a place where customers interested in Amazon's gadgets like the Echo of Fire TV or other smart gadgets could find time to see how they worked in the real world before buying.

The Houston area has pop-up shops at the Baybrook Mall, Katy Mills, The Galleria, The Woodlands Mall and Willowbrook Mall.

Amazon's pop-ups have been around for about five years and will wrap up by April 29 when all stores will close and workers will be divorced as long as they stay until then. according to The Wall Street Journal.

It is unclear how many workers will be affected, and if they can transfer to newly opened 4-star or bookstores. "We work to find opportunities within the company for employees," an Amazon spokesman, Business Insider, said in a statement, but did not want to provide further details.

Amazon has previously installed its pop-ups in Whole Foods, Kohl's and shopping malls.

In a conference call to Kohl's most recent earnings report, Michelle Gass, chief executive, told analysts that she would move Amazon pop-ups to a more traditional wholesale model.

"It was an experiment and one of the things that really drives the culture, is trying a lot nowadays. We tried the store in the store idea and what we see is that we actually see good results through & # 39, a wholesale relationship, "Gass said.

"We're actually going to bring it into a dedicated space in over 200 stores … with a wider variety of Amazon devices, but this will be more of a self-service environment, what is how our clients use us to shop us. "
