Forward from Dragon Quest XI: Echo from an eternal age

In the past E3, we were able to approach the Square Enix booth to seek Dragon Quest XI: Echo & # 39; s or Elusive Age, the next installment of the veteran JRPG franchise. We tested the western version of the game, almost a year after it was released in Japan. Although this edition also includes enhancements such as a first person camera, enhanced interface, English dubbing or the ability to jump on foot.

The demo had two separate parts, one in Cobblestone at the beginning of the game and one later in the capital of Gallopolos, as soon as the protagonist had already managed to make a large part of the team in the adventure. will be accompanied. We only have fifteen minutes and in our case we chose to enter directly into the second part of the demo.

We start riding and we can go to the city or go directly to the Celestial Sands area, where a boss awaits us. On the map are clearly marked people with whom we should speak to pursue the main goals, so we choose to step out of the way. In the city you can buy objects, accept side games, talk to the villagers … the only thing that was a bit of the ordinary was horse racing.

The city itself was already an indication of what we would find in the fight: an old-school roleplaying title, whose combat system did not break down a few decades ago. There is an option to change the aspect of the campaigns that transform it into a free form, allowing us to move freely through the closed area where the enemies are, but it doesn't look like that. tactical benefits over the normal mindset. This is more natural with this system.

The first games were not a big challenge, so we started with the last boss, where the issue already needs a little more tactics and uses the skills of the different characters, especially the two stomach (attack / healing). As they warned us, we ran out of time before the boss finished. It could only be completed if we addressed him directly and devoted him all the time to the demo.

I tried to use the fifteen minutes to try a little bit of everything and the truth is that I didn't get anything in the end. The first impression I take is that Dragon Quest XI & # 39; is a classic JRPG to no longer be able to. It is logical that the game in the Japanese version of Nintendo 3DS can be seen as a 16-bit title, because the game puts its roots in the depths of the genre; 3D is more a decoration than a feature that defines the title. The game reaches the West on 4 September.
